Elder Joshua Anderson's first letter from the Scottsdale Arizona mission.

It was one really crazy week. So Monday we went to go see a less active that we had found and we were going to read from The Book of Mormon with her. When we arrived at her house she was just heading out to go to Walmart but she was still willing to talk to us before she left. So we opened up the scriptures and started to read with her. About halfway through the chapter this guy about 40 years old comes up into her driveway, where we are having the lesson, and asks if he can join us. Of course my companion and I said yes but he was not there to learn anything. He wanted to tell us all about how Mormons were wrong. So right in front of this lady in her driveway he is going on and on about stuff that just wasn't making any sense. Literally this guy was crazy. So eventually my companion and I just bore out testimony that The Book of Mormon was true, which he just kept talking through, but when I bore my testimony of The Book of Mormon I felt the spirit so strong! It was the coolest thing! So when this guy finally finished he left and we turned to the lady we were supposed to be teaching and asked her if she wanted us to leave. she told us that she wanted us to stay and finish the lesson. when we finished, instead of going to Walmart, she told us that she was going to go back into her house to tell her whole family about what just happened. So after her we went to another less active to teach her and her non-member son. When we got there this lady told us that her son saw a video on Youtube that he had questions about. so he showed us this horribly made Youtube video on how Michael Jackson was a reincarnated Jesus Christ! I was saw the first Minute of the video and I was so tempted to tell him to just turn if off and that that is ridiculous. But this was a legitimate concern he had so I knew that we needed to watch he whole video so he didn't get offended. But after the 15 minute video we totally just ripped the whole video to shreds... So that's about all we did that day. On Tuesday we got blasted by another crazing guy. We were riding out bikes to our next appointment and we had a little bit of time so we stopped and talked to this old guy on his porch. He again literally made no sense. He was going on about how the Bible was the only correct book and we got him to keep contradicting himself. So again we just bore our testimony and left. and whenever these guys talk to us they never give us a chance to speak. I got so frustrated I just turned my bike around, told him to have a nice day, and then rode off while he was still talking. He kept saying the same thing over and over again and we could have been there all day. but as we were riding away we told us to keep saving souls and to have a good day. Anyways the next day was like completely opposite. We were looking for a referral we had received but it was a bad address. So instead we found this lady that was totally prepared. We started talking to her and she told us that she was looking for a new church and she started telling us all these personal beliefs she had and they were exactly what we believed. She majored in religious studies so she was really familiar with the bible. It was really cool because we would teach her something new and she would say "yeah, that makes sense because it says this and this in the Bible"  Its interesting that people who truly know the Bible totally believe what we say, and then there are those who have just been given a verse from their pastor to share with LDS missionaries if they ever meet them. And when that happens we usually get them to contradict themselves...Anyways on Friday somebody gave us a suicide note... We were eating dinner at Burger Kind and this homeless guy came us and have a sticky not with two pence taped to it. His handwriting was horrible so it took us like 10 minutes to figure out what it said. When we finally figured out what it said he decided to go looking for him. We started with a prayer and asked God that if it was his will to help us find this guy. We looked for about 20 minutes and didn't find him. We decided to just go to our appointment, which we were now late for. So after our appointment, which was interrupted by Jehovah Witnesses, we told a cop about the note we had found. There was nothing he could really do because the guy was homeless, but once he found out there was a warrant for his arrest the said he would notify some other cops in that area.  On Friday we took one of our progressing investigators to the temple and she loved it! He asked her again if she would get baptized and she said yes! so we have decided to take a new investigator to the visitor center every Thursday. Anyways things have been going really great. It can be really hard at times, but missions are supposed to be hard! I have already learned so much and my testimony has grown so much. I love being out here. That's about all I have for this week!
